About

As a 20-something black sports journalist, I almost always find myself in the minority in offices, newsrooms and press boxes. One of the thingsĀ I have heard in my short career is the importance of diversity in the media. It’s a process that’s definitely needed, but is occurring with the understanding that it won’t happen overnight.

What “the black quarterback” will attempt to do is share opinions, thoughts and ideas on race and the sports media and examine and critique the influence on race in sports coverage. I hope this blog continues the ongoing dialogue on how different views and opinions are imperative to sports coverage. It’s a serious topic, but should be fun at the same time.

FYI, my sister Cindy Brunson is black. She’s been an anchor on ESPNews and SportsCenter for the last 8 years. Shame on you, for not recognizing the woman of color, who’s been the most consistent on the anchor desk at the WWL.
